Description
In January 2009, a diving incident occurred at Osprey Reef, an island open ocean site located off Queensland, Australia. A male diver was injured by a grey reef shark measuring approximately 2 meters in length. The encounter resulted in non-fatal injuries, specifically minor lacerations to the victim's calf. The diver was able to be treated for the wound. Grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) are known to inhabit reef environments and are generally considered moderately dangerous to humans, particularly in situations where they feel threatened or are competing for food. Osprey Reef is a popular diving destination in the Coral Sea, situated off the northeast coast of Queensland, and incidents at such locations, while uncommon relative to diving frequency, do occur.
